At Apple’s WWDC 2024, Apple announced iOS 18 and macOS 15 Sequoia.

iOS 18

  • Apple Intelligence is the main feature of iOS 18 even though it doesn’t appear until iOS 18.1 is released, likely in October 2024. It adds artificial intelligence capabilities and large language model integrations to Siri and other iOS functions – such as writing, notifications, messaging etc. It will be available on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max and then all iPhone 16 models plus iPad Mx and Macs Mx.
  • Other features of iOS 18 include:
  • Photos app redesigned and allows for user customisation
  • Home Screen and App icons – users can customise icon colours and positions and size
  • App widgets can be resized as required
  • Control Center – will allow multiple pages of controls, resizable buttons and 3rd party controls
  • Passwords – a Password managing app
  • Having iOS 18 and MacOS 15 Sequoia will allow you to use iPhone Mirroring – control your iPhone via an app on your Mac/iMac

MacOS 15 Sequoia

Main features are:

  • Apple Intelligence (on Silicon chips, like M1, M2, M3 etc) – will be in 15.1 likely in October 2024
  • iPhone Mirroring – this allows you to use your smartphone on your Mac desktop, in a compact (resizable) window. This means you can use iPhone apps on the macOS 15 desktop, reply to texts, interact with iPhone notifications, and so forth – there’s even the ability to seamlessly drag and drop files directly between devices (though that still hasn’t been seen in testing yet, it’s coming).
  • Safari – Reader mode (removes distractions), Viewer mode (places video playing on a website at front and centre)
  • Window positioning enhancements – like snap layouts in Windows 11
  • New Passwords app
  • New dynamic wallpapers
